NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey man is facing involuntary manslaughter and dozens of other charges related to the death of another man in a plane crash nearly two years ago.

U.S. Attorney Jacqueline Romero says 36-year-old Philip McPherson II had two previous crashes and surrendered his pilot's license, but negligently took a student pilot up for a lesson on Sept. 28, 2022. It ended with a fatal crash.

The victim was not publicly identified by authorities.

A year before the crash, McPherson failed his pilots certificate exam for incompetence.

If convicted on all 40 counts, McPherson could get sentenced to more than 100 years in prison.
