PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you’re driving in Philadelphia Saturday morning, you may be detoured for people getting around on two wheels.
The fifth annual Philly Bike Ride gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The 20-mile course stretches from Penn’s Landing to Manayunk, allowing registered riders to pedal past the city’s iconic locations — including Independence Hall, LOVE Park and Boathouse Row — without having to compete with cars.
Road closures include Market Street, Columbus Boulevard and the river drives.
Danielle Ruiz, director of partnerships and communication, said there will be a rolling start to the event on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
“Not all 7,000 riders are starting at the same time,” she said, “and it takes most people between two to three hours to finish.”
Adult registration starts at $120, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits, including the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia.
