PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some Philadelphia residents should be on the lookout for new "no parking" signs around their neighborhoods, as the city's street cleaning season is about to begin.
This is part of the second phase of Philly's mechanical street cleaning pilot program. It's meant to help clean up trash and debris in 14 neighborhoods identified as having the highest amount of litter.
Streets Department officials will hold virtual information sessions about the program this week.
Dates for the sessions, along with more information, can be found below.
The program will run through November 30 in neighborhoods including South Philly, Southwest, Germantown, Kensington, Logan, West Philly, Point Breeze and more.
This means that some drivers in these areas will have to find another place to park their cars starting April 4.
Officials explained the first month is a warning period, but after May 1, those who do not adhere to the parking restrictions will be penalized through fines.
They added cleaning times on streets are staggered and will alternate days to minimize inconvenience to residents.
