PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Folk Fest organizers say they’re planning to cancel this year’s festival, in hopes of “rebuilding” for a return in 2024.
The Folk Fest was first held in 1962 at the Old Pool Farm in Schwenksville. It bills itself as “the longest continuously run outdoor music festival in North America.” But it has been struggling financially for several years.
It was forced to go virtual the past two years because of COVID.
This year’s festival was scheduled for Aug. 17 to 20, but earlier this week, organizers announced it won’t be happening as planned.
The Festival is run by the Philadelphia Folk Song Society. They’re hosting a virtual meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. that will be streamed on their Facebook page.
