PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s nomadic intercity bus terminal could move again by the end of the summer, according to a neighborhood group.
A message from the city posted on the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association website indicates the terminal for Greyhound and other bus companies at Front and Spring Garden streets could be relocated by Labor Day.
Philadelphia’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (OTIS) told the association it would be moving the terminal after hearing from neighbors and the bus companies about the current temporary site. Neighbors say the bus stop on the south side of Spring Garden isn’t working, with limited indoor space for riders to wait and buses and rideshares converging on the street.
The terminal has moved twice in the last year, after the closure of the station at 10th and Filbert streets last June. Last month, the city discussed the idea of moving the terminal to a parking lot on the north side of Spring Garden.
OTIS officials, in a statement to KYW Newsradio on Tuesday, wouldn’t confirm the Labor Day target date.
“Throughout this process, the city has closely engaged with a variety of stakeholders including the bus carriers and neighborhood organizations for feedback and recommendations,” said a spokesperson.
“Currently, ideas are still being developed, options are being weighed, and no plans for relocation have been finalized.”
For now, OTIS says the intercity bus terminal will remain at Front and Spring Garden streets.
