PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man was charged with stalking a 13-year-old girl walking in an Upper Darby neighborhood Monday morning.
Police said shortly before 12 p.m. Dwayne Batist Austin, 46, tried to get a child into his white pickup.
According to court records, the girl told police she was walking along South Cedar Lane toward a Wawa when a man in a white pickup truck told her to get in. When she said no, the man suggested they become “friends with benefits.” The girl said she flagged down an adult who confronted the harasser, and he then drove away.
Police reviewed surveillance video from the Wawa showing an adult confronting the driver of a white pickup. From that video, police said, they were able to identify Austin as a suspect. The victim later picked Austin’s image from a series of photos police showed her.
Austin is charged with two misdemeanor offenses: stalking and attempting to lure a child into a vehicle.
He was arraigned Monday and sent to county prison pending bail.
