PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia care worker who lied about tending to his mother-in-law while she was hospitalized has been convicted of Medicaid fraud and related crimes.
After two days of testimony, a Montgomery County judge convicted 30-year-old Felipe Santos of four counts of tampering with public records and theft by deception for duping the Medicaid program into paying him $4,200 between October 2020 and May 2021.
They say he submitted 262 phony hours to the Philly-based company Help at Home, claiming he was providing at-home care to his mother while she was hospitalized at Aria-Jefferson Hospital, Frankford Campus, and Temple University Hospital.
The company then sought reimbursement from PA Health and Wellness, a care organization funded by the Medicaid program.
Santos will be sentenced in May.
Attorney General Michelle Henry says it is vital to prosecute these crimes to maintain the integrity of the health care system.
