PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A local nonprofit that focuses on making teacher’s jobs easier and keeping students curious is hosting a fundraising event.

Their goal is to raise $20,000 to assist teachers heading into the new school year.

Founded nearly 4 decades ago, Need in Deed continues its service learning mission.

Kyra Atterbury with the organization said the goal is to partner with teachers in encouraging students to serve their communities while giving teachers the tools they need to succeed.

“We really focus on teachers. They are obviously very important,” she said.

Atterbury said their upcoming Soirée 2026 serves that purpose.

“The Soirée is coming up this October 8 and we really want teachers to feel celebrated,” she shared.

It will be a night of good food, dancing and live music. It’s also an opportunity to hear directly from the teachers.

Atterbury said the teachers will talk about ‘how the program benefits them, changed their practice and how it’s changed their students. It’s really a night of inspiration’.

The Soirée helps fund programming for teachers as the school year kicks off. The community can help by attending the Soirée or simply donating on their website www.needindeed.org.
