PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia officials say they have tracked another 1,077 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, and seven more people have died.
Philadelphia's Department of Health said nearly 700 people are being treated in Philadelphia hospitals, with 53 on ventilators.
During the press conference, Dr. Thomas Farley said access to testing has become a concern, with some sites hitting the limit on how many people can be tested.
"There is a higher priority for the testing sites and the city as a whole to test people who have symptoms and to test people who have been exposed to COVID. Those are the people who are more likely to be positive, and we want to contain the spread from them as quickly as possible," he explained.
Farley said officials are particularly concerned about those in group homes as they are seeing more cases in more clusters there.
"In nursing homes, for the week that began in Nov. 8, we had a total of 84 cases in residents. And for last week, we had 52 cases reported to us so far. Both of those are a big increase from the 10 to 15 cases per week from August and September," he explained.
Officials are also continuing to urge people to only have Thanksgiving with those within their households.
