PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Last January, the Philadelphia School District indicated it was piloting a couple of year-round schools. But there hasn't been an update since.

The facilities plan on the district’s website still calls for a year-round K-8 school co-located at Bethune Elementary in North Philadelphia next fall, and later, a year-round high school at the current Welsh Elementary School. Parents would opt into the year-round pilot.

But Superintendent Tony Watlington says the district isn't ready to define a firm timeline.

"We've not gone any further with making any additional announcements about the North Philadelphia Promise School, a year-round school. We'll have more to say about that pretty soon."

When the pilot was first announced in January, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Art Steinberg said any changes in working conditions must be negotiated. A union spokesperson said so far, that hasn't happened.
