PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend's planned closure of the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia's Grays Ferry neighborhood has been canceled.
PennDOT representatives said on Wednesday the cancellation is to accommodate traffic heading to and from the Phillies playoff games at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday and Sunday.
This is the second of four scheduled weekend closures of the highway to be canceled.
Next weekend's closure is expected to go on as scheduled. The eastbound lanes of I-76 will be shut down from the University Avenue exit to the 34th Street exit, from 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, until 6 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.
PennDOT crews will make repairs to the bridge deck and riding surfaces. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to avoid the area around the closure, if possible.
