Man arrested after assaulting fire official, barricading himself in Tacony house

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a man who allegedly assaulted a firefighter then barricaded himself inside a home in the Tacony section of the city Friday morning is now in custody.

Officials say after the assault, the suspect ran into a home on the 7100 block of Jackson Street, a couple of blocks away from Cottman Avenue. SWAT officers were called to the scene.

The man was arrested just before 1 p.m.

The lieutenant’s condition and what led to the attack is unknown.

It is unclear why the fire department was there in the first place.
