Driver dead after hitting concrete barrier in Eastwick, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is dead after police say he crashed his SUV into a barrier in the Eastwick section of Philadelphia.

According to officials, the elderly man was driving a black Mitsubishi Outlander westbound on Mario Lanza Boulevard at high speed just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

Police say he crashed into a concrete barrier and was severely injured.

Medics took him to a hospital, where he died about 45 minutes later.

The cause is under investigation.
