PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for three suspects who allegedly robbed a Brinks security officer at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia.
According to authorities, it was around noon at the Holmesburg Shopping Center, near Frankford Avenue near Ashburner Street, when an armed man approached the security officer, who had just made a cash pickup from a nearby business. He was ordered not to move.
Two additional suspects emerged from a silver 2022 Honda Accord, one of whom was armed with a black AR-style rifle. One of the men removed the officer's gun from his holster, while the other took a bag containing an unknown amount of money. Efforts to gain full access to the armored truck failed due to the vehicle's security locking system.
The suspects made their getaway in the silver Accord. Police said there were no injuries reported.
Investigators are working to determine whether this incident is connected to other recent robberies involving armored transport services in the area.
