PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Chinatown spas were robbed over the weekend. Police are investigating whether the incidents are related.
The robberies happened three hours and two blocks apart early Saturday morning.
Police said the first incident happened around 1 a.m. at a spa on 12th Street, near Vine Street. Three men, one with a gun, forced their way inside, pushed an employee out of the way, stole cash and ran out.
Then, at 4 a.m., three men and two women forced their way at gunpoint into the Ocean Spa at 10th and Arch streets.
A 41-year-old woman was cut on her face as the intruders got away with cash and cellphones. Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said investigators believe the cases are connected.
"These cases are being investigated as a pattern. Very similar, very close in proximity and within a few hours of each other."
Vanore said police have surveillance video they're working to enhance to try to identify suspects.
