PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating an unusual hit-and-run on Wednesday night in the Kingsessing neighborhood, where a man was reportedly struck by two vehicles and dragged for blocks.
Officers were called around 7:30 p.m. to Woodland Avenue near Grays Ferry Avenue, where they found a man dead on the street.
As detectives were investigating, they found a silver Hyundai at a Popeye’s nearby, where the driver, a 75-year-old woman, said she thought she ran over a carpet while driving to get food, somewhere along Grays Ferry Avenue near 34th Street, on the other side of the bridge.
Officials said they believe the man’s body became trapped under the car and was there for blocks before dislodging into the parking lot of the Popeyes.
They also believe she was not the only one who hit him and that he had been struck before his body got stuck under the car.
No one has been arrested or charged. Detectives with the crash investigation division are reviewing video and speaking with potential witnesses to determine exactly what happened.
