PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed on Monday inside the Philadelphia Mills Mall. Police believe it started as a fist fight in the food court just after 5 p.m.

The entrance outside the food court is taped off. It’s known as the orange entrance. Police say there were probably hundreds of people inside the mall, dozens inside the food court, when shots were fired. Everyone ran in different directions when they heard the gun go off.

Bill Yancy described what it was like inside inside when it happened. He said he was in a massage chair near the food court when chaos struck.

"A lot of people ran by me with kids, and they were just dragging their kids, and running real fast," he said. "A lot of people.”

He says he thought it was it was just kids plying a prank at first.

"Because you wouldn’t expect someone to get shot like that. You wouldn’t expect that to happen in a mall."

Police say mall employees locked themselves in stores. SWAT units helped them leave the mall.

The victim was shot multiple times. Police have not said if anyone else was hurt.

The shooter remains on the loose. No weapons have been recovered.
