PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a man in West Philadelphia Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the area of 55th and Webster streets around 7 a.m. for a report of a person with a gun. There, officers approached an armed 75-year-old man on a front porch.
“There was very quickly a confrontation” between the man and a female officer, said Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore. “The male had a firearm. There were shots fired during that confrontation, and the male was struck one time.”
The man was taken to the hospital by one of the responding officers who did not discharge his weapon. The man died about 30 minutes later.
None of the officers were injured.
Investigators said they don’t know who shot first, whether it was the man or the officer.
