PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are warning people to beware of scammers running a burglary scheme in Northeast Philadelphia.

Detectives are working to identify a group of men wearing reflective work vests and impersonating employees of the Water Department in order to target elderly residents.

On Monday, the men, operating out of a white pickup truck, told someone who lives near the intersection of Anderson and Dorset streets that they could help lower their monthly water bill.

After they were let inside the house, detectives said, one person distracted the victim while another riffled through the house, looking for things to steal.

Police say a similar incident happened on Feb. 14, when the suspects took a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson gun from someone's house.

Authorities ask anyone who thinks they have seen the truck or its occupants to call 911. They also encourage anyone with information about these or other related incidents to call Northeast Detectives (215-686-3153 / 3154), or to submit an anonymous tip via phone or text at 215-686-TIPS.
