
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Port Richmond woman has been charged in a hit-and-run that critically injured a man at a North Philadelphia gas station.
Bertha Johnson, 52, is charged with aggravated assault involving a vehicle and related offenses.
Investigators said she struck a 53-year-old man with her silver Hyundai Sonata while he was pumping gas, pinning him between a fuel pump and his car. It happened just before 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 at a Sunoco near Richmond Street and Allegheny Avenue.
Police said Johnson briefly got out of the car to adjust the license plate before fleeing the scene.
The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries, including two broken legs.
An investigation is ongoing.

In a negotiated deal with the District Attorney’s Office, Johnson pleaded guilty to a single charge, accidents involving injury or death. Prosecutors dropped the remaining charges against her. Judge Natasha Taylor-Smith then sentenced Johnson to 11 ½ to 23 months in prison, with two years of probation.
