PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starting April 29, the City of Philadelphia will be cracking down on car owners who don’t observe parking restrictions for street cleaning.

The city began an expanded street cleaning program on April 1 but has only been issuing warnings since. Now, the Parking Authority will issue $31 tickets.

“No Parking” signs are posted in designated service areas. Motorists are asked to move their vehicles during cleaning times.

The city says cleaning times are staggered and can sometimes occur on alternate days to minimize inconvenience to residents.

Philadelphia abandoned street cleaning for more than a decade because council members believed residents would not move their cars so streets could be cleaned. The program returned in 2019.

Street cleaning, as well as restricted parking, runs until Nov. 1. More information can be found here.
