PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Camden County want to tap into some homegrown talent as they look to beef up the future of their workforce.
Time is running out for teens and young adults to get involved in a summer program that will help them do just that.
16 to 24-year-olds are being encouraged to apply to the eight-week summer internship program run through the Camden County Workforce Development Board.
"What we plan to do is to afford young people an oppertunity to have an internship with employers located throughout Camden County," said Jeffrey Swartz with the board.
He explained that unlike other summer jobs, they want participants to use this time as a chance to explore career paths they have an interest in.
"We're looking to place youth in a variety of employers that hopefully match their passion and their inspiration as they move forward," Swartz added.
He said the program is looking to place 45 teens and young adults who live in the county with various businesses. Applications for the program are due Friday.
He described the program as a "win-win" for the county, as well as for the participants who will also take home a paycheck.
"The more oppertunities they have to gain exposure to what's out there, we're very confident that will keep them here and hopefully continue them along their career path," said Swartz.
