
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania State Police have identified a Philadelphia man as the victim of a 1991 cold case.
PSP says Derek Michael Mason was last seen leaving his residence on the 500 block of South 39th Street in West Philadelphia in October 1991.
On Jan. 21, 1992, investigators found the remains of an unidentified man in a wooded area along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Clay Township, Lancaster County.
Decades passed and, in December 2023, they identified the man as Mason, who they say was nicknamed “Hawk” or “Hawkeye.”
They announced his identity on Monday, June 24, 2024, but have not said how they believe he died.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest.
