PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A dog is recovering after it was shot in the head in Southwest Philadelphia.

The law enforcement team with Pennsylvania SPCA says the dog, now named Maverick, was found near the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge on Nov. 20 with a gunshot wound just above his left eye.

He is being cared for by PSPCA's Mainline Animal Rescue site. They say he now has a head tilt, delayed gait to the right hind, and trauma to his left forebrain.

They say Maverick's left eye will most likely be removed.

Anyone with information on the person or people responsible for the shooting is asked to call PSPCA's animal cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722 or contact Cruelty@pspca.org. Tips can be anonymous.
