PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Pennsylvania’s Attorney General’s Office last month.
In a post on its leak site, the ransomware group INC said it stole 5.7 terabytes of data and published sample files to back up the claim.
The Aug. 11 breach knocked out the attorney general’s email, phones, and computer systems, delaying both criminal and civil cases.
Attorney General Dave Sunday said no ransom was paid and announced services were being restored on Aug. 18. His office is notifying people that their personal information may have been affected.
State and federal investigators still have a lot of work to do, including verifying the hacker’s claims and determining how they were able to get into the system.
The attorney general’s office said it could not comment due to the ongoing investigation.
