PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Insomnia has a relatively simple definition: trouble initiating or maintaining sleep. The definition is much simpler than understanding the wide variety of causes and certainly much simpler than finding treatments.

Since the peak of the pandemic, a growing number of people have developed depression and/or anxiety. A significant number of these individuals have also started to experience sleeping issues.


In some cases, treating anxiety or depression helps with insomnia, but researchers have learned that in the majority of these cases, insomnia needs to be evaluated and treated as a separate issue because there are often other factors leading to sleep problems.
