PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Rittenhouse Square dentist is starting to see patients again, two months after health officials suspended her license and warned patients to get tested for HIV and hepatitis.
Inspectors found Dr. Kirti Chopra using a number of unsafe practices at Smiles of Rittenhouse Square, at 255 S. 17th St., such as saving open vials of anesthetic and reusing them with other patients, reusing saline bags, and not sufficiently sterilizing instruments.
Chopra told NBC10 that she’s sorry and hopes she earns her patients’ trust.
“We worked day and night to make sure we passed the remediation, fulfill and make sure we open safely for our patients,” she said, “and provide care with utmost professionalism and quality care, because I believe people of Philadelphia deserve that.”
As part of an agreement with the Pennsylvania Board of Dentistry, Chopra will be required to follow new infection-control protocols, boost staff training, and submit to surprise inspections.
