PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Runners were off to the races in South Philly Sunday for The Philly 10K run.

Thousands of participants started at 8th and South Streets at 7:30 a.m. to run the 6.2-mile course through the streets of South Philly and go through some of the more popular spots to run in the city.

Rebekah Muhs recently moved to Philly, and she ran in this race for the first time.

“I'm just really excited to explore different avenues. Running has been an ongoing passion of mine, so I was looking up Philly races, and this one popped up,” said Muhs. “It looked really fun, there are a lot of people here, and I'm excited.”

After just 30 minutes, the Philly 10k had its winner on Sunday morning.

With a time of 30:16, 22-year-old Joey Datta won the event.

The runners finished up at 5th and South Streets and celebrated with a post-race festival, filled with live music and local vendors.
