CAMDEN (KYW Newsradio) — Rutgers University is receiving millions of dollars in federal grant money to help students launch their careers.
The Department of Education awarded Rutgers’ Camden campus a Strengthening Institutions Program Grant of more than $2.9 million over five years — $582,000 annually.
The money will be used to expand the number of available internships and provide additional mentorship and career coaching for undergrads through the Career Readiness and Internship Success Program.
Marsha Lowery, Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Success, said that the grant “allows us to… prepare students not only to graduate, but to succeed in a rapidly evolving workforce.”
She said that CRISP will improve both student retention and graduation rates, and increase the number of students graduating with jobs.
The Strengthening Institutions Program aims to help broaden colleges’ ability to serve low-income students.
