PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philly parents may soon have easy access to school information in the palm of their hands.
The school district is working on developing a mobile app for schools. The aim is to make it easier for parents to see schedules for school and sporting events, lunch menus and attendance information.
Superintendent Tony Watlington said parents have told him the school district’s website works fine on a computer, but that it’s “all jumbled” on mobile web browsers and “doesn’t make sense.”
“I’ve learned from our families that they get more information from their cell phones than sitting down sometimes at a computer,” he said.
Watlington said that with parents inundated with information these days, the district decided to design an app that simply lays it all out.
He said the app should be ready by December and will see a limited release at a select number of schools to start, with the end goal of eventually rolling it out to all Philadelphia public schools.
