PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An on-duty Secret Service agent accidentally shot himself in the leg while escorting former first lady Jill Biden at Philadelphia International Airport, sources say.
Philadelphia police said it happened around 8:40 a.m. Friday at Terminal C departures, right outside the American Airlines ticketing area.
Authorities said the Secret Service agent was in a black unmarked Chevy Suburban when he accidentally shot himself in the leg. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Sources said he had been escorting Biden, but officials said she was not with the agent when the gun went off. No one else was hurt, and airport operations were not affected.
Investigators went over the scene for a few hours. The Philadelphia Crime Scene Unit placed two evidence markers in the trunk of the SUV. Police and the Secret Service will continue to investigate.
