PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A security guard shot and killed a man inside a Center City IHOP late Saturday night, police said.
It happened around 11 p.m. Police say a security guard, identified as 39-year-old Yahaira Melendez of Kensington, was escorting a 43-year-old man out of the restaurant on Walnut and Juniper streets for causing a disturbance. Then, the man turned and spat at Melendez.
That's when Melendez discharged her firearm, striking the 43-year-old in the head.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Police believe he was homeless.
Melendez was arrested and charged with murder and related offenses.
