
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two separate motorcycle crashes in Philadelphia on Labor Day left both bike riders critically injured.
The first crash happened around 7:30 p.m. in Kensington. Authorities said a car traveling northbound on Kensington Avenue tried to go around a motorcycle but made contact with it, knocking the rider to the ground.
The 46-year-old rider was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to his head and groin. He remains in critical condition.
The second crash happened about 45 minutes later in Northeast Philadelphia. A car was pulling out of a parking lot and onto Roosevelt Boulevard when it was rear-ended by a motorcycle traveling at a high speed.
The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle, and they landed on Roosevelt Boulevard. The person was taken to the hospital with serious body and head injuries and remains in critical condition.
Police are investigating both crashes.
More crashes in Delaware County
Pennsylvania State Police are also investigating two separate motorcycle crashes that happened over the holiday weekend.
The first happened in Chadds Ford Saturday afternoon. Police said a FedEx truck pulled out onto Route 1, heading south. The driver did not see an oncoming motorcycle, which then crashed into the driver’s side of the truck.
The motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. The truck stayed on site. The road was shut down for several hours.
Then on Sunday, just before 4 a.m., troopers said a speeding motorcyclist slammed into a box truck on I-95 South in Tinicum Township and spun out of control. The biker was thrown into the road and died instantly. The highway was shut down for several hours.
Pennsylvania State Police detectives are still investigating both crashes.
