Separate stabbings in West Philly and Juniata Park leave 2 men dead

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men were killed in separate stabbings over the weekend.

Authorities said the first stabbing happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in West Philly. A 20-year-old man was stabbed twice in the abdomen on Wanamaker Street between Callowhill Street and Haverford Avenue, down the street from the Haddington Recreation Center.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian and died overnight between Saturday and Sunday of his injuries. There have been no arrests made so far in the case. Police are asking the public to contact their Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call their TIP line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). There is a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Later Saturday, around 9 p.m., police said two men were stabbed in Juniata Park on Whitaker Avenue near its intersection with Courtland Street.

One of the men, 46 years old, was stabbed once in the chest and died about an hour later at a nearby hospital.

The other man, 82 years old, was stabbed once in the back and is in stable condition.

Police are still investigating, but have made an arrest in the case and recovered a weapon at the scene.
