PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — SEPTA’s impending service cuts could leave midday Regional Rail riders with long waits between trains.

Without more state funding, SEPTA plans to cut service by 20% starting on Aug. 24. For Regional Rail riders, that will mean two hours between midday trains.

“What our planners have had to try to do to maintain some viable peak service during the morning and in the evening was to sacrifice most midday service,” said SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch.

Trains on the Airport Line would run hourly instead of every 30 minutes. Busch said the full reduced schedule should be released soon.

“Finishing touches are being put on those now, and we’re pledging to have those out to our riders by the end of next week,” he added.

Busch said nighttime and weekend Regional Rail service would also run every two hours if the cuts take effect.
