PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — SEPTA has made some more coronavirus pandemic-related changes to its subway and bus schedules.
Overnight weekend service has ended on the Broad Street and Market- Frankford lines. Instead, riders must use buses along those routes.
"Those weekend overnight buses stop at every station on the Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines," said SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch. "Service on those buses runs every 15 minutes between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. So it's not a service elimination, it's just an adjustment."
He said ridership has been way down because of the pandemic, so these schedule changes are necessary.
"Makes them consistent with what we're doing during the week, where we also have overnight bus services," he added. "So it allows us to continue the deep cleanings we do when the stations are closed overnight — power-washing, sanitizing, a number of cleaning efforts that we've stepped up during the pandemic to keep the stations as clean as possible for service."
There will also be no more express trains running on the Broad Street Line between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., but local trains will now run every seven minutes.
