PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — SEPTA is delaying the purchase of new buses and a few construction projects to keep up with day-to-day operations.

The agency announced it is transferring $394 million of federal, state and local capital funds to its operating budget, which will become available in January.

The move was approved by PennDOT last month after SEPTA made an emergency request to avoid service cuts for the next two years.

SEPTA says it will push back the purchase of nearly 250 hybrid diesel-electric buses by three years. The agency will also delay buying buses for its zero-emission pilot program, and it will postpone the retrofitting of hybrid buses to run on electric power.

SEPTA had planned to renovate Bristol Station on the Trenton Regional Rail Line to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. That, along with the expansion of the Frazer Railroad Facility, will be pushed back.

SEPTA says this is in addition to 44 other paused infrastructure projects as it faces a funding crisis in Harrisburg.
