PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Sesame Place has announced changes to its diversity, equity and inclusion programs after recent high-profile incidents alleging characters snubbed Black children at the park.
Park leaders on Tuesday announced comprehensive initiatives to address what the public has largely perceived as intentional discrimination toward Black children — some of whom have recorded not-so-nice encounters with costumed characters.
Among the actions Sesame Place says it will take: making an overall racial equity assessment to review what current policies demand of staffers, plus training workers in new standard operating procedures for the park. This work will be overseen by national experts.
Sesame Place, in Langhorne, Bucks County, says this training will be thorough and thoughtful, and that it will become part of all new-employee onboarding going forward.
