PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Severe storms forced Welcome America to postpone its pre-Fourth of July concert at Independence Mall on Sunday.

Severe weather ripped across the region — enough to trigger multiple tornado warnings, though the National Weather Service does not believe any actually touched down in the Delaware Valley.

In central Pennsylvania, though, near State College, the National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes did touch down.

As a result, the Gospel on Independence concert was canceled. The Welcome America Mass Choir performance featured the Six Singing Sista’s Ensemble and Philly Remembers Choir, with special performances by Treena Ferebee and the Generations.

With anticipated better weather, Welcome America rescheduled the show for Monday evening.

The gospel show was expected to go on at 8 p.m. at Independence Mall, following a 6 p.m. performance by award-winning singer and actress Vanessa Williams. Both, however, were canceled due to expected rain.

If you were planning on attending the concerts but couldn't, don't worry there are more activities happening. People can visit museums across the city for free, like Eastern State Penitentiary, the National Constitution Center, the Mütter Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and many more.
