PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Democrats Governor Shapiro and Elizabeth Moro rallied in Chester County over the weekend to energize supporters for the upcoming midterm elections.
Dozens of people crammed into a small barn in Chadds Ford on Sunday as Shapiro criticized the Trump administration for the Iran War and federal funding cuts.
“Over 200,000 Pennsylvanians are losing access to food assistance,” he said. “Think about that cruelty.”
Millions of Americans lost access to SNAP benefits when federal policy changes took effect last year.
The rally framed the midterm elections as a referendum on the current administration, which Shapiro called, “Chaotic, cruel and corrupt.”
Supporters like Pat Chapman agree that a lot is at stake in November.
“Freedom for people to get our lives back together,” Chapman said. “It’s ridiculous how we have to live now. The poor are the poor.”
Shapiro and Moro pledged to expand housing and raise the minimum wage if they win in November.
State treasurer Stacy Garrity is challenging Shapiro in the gubernatorial election and has been endorsed by President Trump.
Garrity told KYW she agrees that life needs to be more affordable, and blames Shapiro for rising utility rates, which she said she’d combat largely with tax cuts.
Moro, meanwhile, is running for a seat in the House in Chester and Delaware counties.
She and other Democrats in Harrisburg are seeking to keep control of the House and flip the Senate in the upcoming election.
Moro is facing off again with incumbent Pennsylvania state representative Craig Williams, a Marine Corps veteran who defeated her to defend his seat in 2024.
