PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Gov. Josh Shapiro has nominated Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke to the Liquor Control Board.
A spokesman for Shapiro notes Clarke has served Philadelphians in council for more than two decades and says he hopes the state senate confirms his nomination so he can continue to serve.
It’s an unusual choice, as Clarke doesn’t drink. Clarke declined to comment, but he has often challenged how substances like nicotine and alcohol are marketed in his North Philadelphia district.
Clarke is retiring from City Council at the end of his current term in December.
