PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Sharif Street Jr., the son of state Sen. Sharif Street and the grandson of former Mayor John Street, has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run car crash last summer that injured a 14-year-old girl, investigators said.
The 24-year-old surrendered on Jan. 29 to face several charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, police said.
Just before 9 a.m. on Aug. 13, 2023, near Broad Street and Erie Avenue, a 14-year-old girl was struck by a white Nissan Maxima, which then fled the scene. The girl suffered minor injuries and was treated at Jefferson Einstein Hospital.
The police department’s Crash Investigation Division identified Sharif Street Jr. as the driver of the car. Court records show he was arraigned on Jan. 31 and posted $2,500 bail.
His listed defense attorney, Donald Chisolm II, hasn’t responded to KYW Newsradio’s request for comment, nor has Sen. Sharif Street.
It’s not the first time Sharif Street Jr. has had a brush with the law. He was arrested last month on charges he punched a security guard at The Met Philadelphia during the inauguration of Mayor Cherelle Parker.
