Shelter dogs, cats from Texas will soon be up for adoption in Philly area

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More than 100 shelter dogs and cats from Texas will soon be up for adoption in the Philadelphia region as two emergency flights arrive this weekend.

The group Wings of Rescue have two flights scheduled on Sunday, relocating 110 dogs and cats from three shelters in the Fort Worth area to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

“It’s really overwhelming for the folks in Texas to be taking care of their shelter animals when they have no power, water pipes are bursting, they got their own homes in peril. So we are stepping in to take some of the shelter animals off of their hands, into our area, get them into homes,” Linda Torelli, a spokeswoman for the BVSPCA, explained.

The animals were already in the Texas shelter system before the recent winter storms and will be available for adoption at the BVSPCA’s Delaware campuses starting on Tuesday.

Another 100 dogs and cats from Louisiana will also be going up for adoption at the BVSPCA and will be housed at the West Chester campus. That separate life-saving mission was already scheduled.

The BVSPCA will have more than 200 dogs and cats from these three flights to match with families.
