CHESTER, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Three people, including a juvenile, were shot at the Uno Pizzeria parking lot in Chester, Delaware County, on Wednesday night, where dozens of young people had gathered for graduation celebrations.
Around 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the restaurant at 16th Street and Providence Avenue, near Widener University. They found three victims — a man, a woman and a boy.
Chester police said they were taken to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
No arrests have been made.
The gunshots sent people scrambling. Shoes, flip flops, cash and bottles of alcohol were left behind in the parking lot where dozens of young people — high school- and college-aged — were hanging out to celebrate different graduations.
Widener University, in a statement, said it was “aware of the incident Wednesday night outside the Uno Pizzeria & Grill. … City police are investigating, and the university is fully cooperating with the department.”
“This senseless act of violence disrupted what should have been a safe evening for residents, families, and visitors enjoying our community,” said Chester City Commissioner Katrina Blackwell. “When gun violence erupts in public spaces, it impacts far more than those directly involved; it diminishes the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here.”
“The safety of our residents remains our highest priority,” added Mayor Stefan Roots. “While we are relieved that none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, this senseless violence is unacceptable and has no place in our community. Given the location of this incident, investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from numerous nearby businesses and security camera systems to assist in identifying those responsible.”
