PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As a baby grows, it is extremely important to monitor growth and development. There are a series of developmental milestones that serve as guides along the way.

One area many parents worry about is whether their toddler is developing speaking skills at the appropriate rate. This can vary, but concerns are raised when certain milestones are not met.

An example is when a 2-year-old is speaking less than 200 words, has incomprehensible speech, or has delays in testing. In many cases, there may not be a problem, but if there is an issue, it is important to get it checked out.

Parents who have concerns can take advantage of experts in language pathology and audiology.
