PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Inspiring women and girls, Women’s Way is highlighting some of the city’s most talented chefs every Wednesday in March during Women’s History Month. The Philadelphia Sisterly Love Collective, in collaboration with Stratus Rooftop Lounge, is hosting pop-up events.
Jill Weber, the co-organizer of the Sisterly Love Collective, says the dinner series at the Monaco Hotel is called Women’s Way Wednesdays.
“Women's Way is a charitable organization that promotes equity for gender and sex and basically all types of equity for women,” she said.
The event includes dinner and drinks by women recognized locally as some of the best in the culinary field, including James Beard award winners and finalists like Cristina Martinez, Melissa McGrath, Kiki Aranita, and more. Weber says she believes society is finally recognizing women in the culinary world.
“I’m so glad that we get the opportunity to just kind of amplify these voices and let more women be heard and showcase all the talent that this city has that for so long was not recognized,” she said.
But Weber says there’s still more work to be done to achieve professional equity:
“I don't ever want to have to say female chef, I want to just say chef,” she said. “But until people, when they hear the word chef, think man and woman, unfortunately, it needs to be qualified.”
All proceeds from the pop-ups will be donated to Women’s Way, a Philadelphia nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women and girls and achieving gender equity for all.
