PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 97-year-old Hatboro man was rescued from his burning home early on Thanksgiving morning.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to Fairview Avenue around 3:30 a.m. for a report of a house fire. Police officers got into the house through a back door and shouted for the resident, eventually waking him.
The homeowner said he’d been sleeping and didn’t even know his house was on fire.
Police carried him out of the house and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In addition to the officers, a newspaper delivery driver is being praised for calling 911 after he saw flames coming from the second-floor window.
The fire was placed under control by 4 a.m. Officials said it started in a back bedroom, adjacent to the room the homeowner was sleeping in.
The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
