Some users report login issues on NJ's new COVID-19 vaccine registration portal

SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey launched a new online portal to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine, but some users reported problems logging into it Tuesday morning.

After a crush of users ground the new COVID-19 vaccine registration page nearly to a halt, the New Jersey Health Department is asking only health care workers to sign up for now.

The New Jersey Vaccine Scheduling System allows residents to register for the vaccine even if they're not yet eligible. But because there are limited supplies of the vaccine, the state wants only health care workers to preregister.

Hours after the page went live, many people trying to sign up at covid19.nj.gov/vaccine got a message that read, "We're sorry, but something went wrong."

New Jersey is currently vaccinating only people in group 1A, which is reserved for health care workers and residents in long-term care facilities.  A spokeswoman for the department said as more vaccines are available for essential workers and people over 75, they'll be advised to register then.

But the general public is being asked to wait for the time being.
