PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police said a woman shot and killed her sister and her granddaughter in a South Philadelphia home Monday afternoon, then turned the gun on herself.

Officers responded to an incident at 10th and Bigler streets around 5:30 p.m. Police found three adult women inside the home with gunshot wounds to their heads. They were pronounced dead a short time later.

According to investigators, 67-year-old Janice Picano shot her 18-year-old granddaughter, Angelina Picano, who had autism, and her 55-year-old sister, Denise Grottini. Then, they said, Janice Picano shot herself.

Sources said Janice Picano’s husband came home and found the three dead inside. Police arrived soon after to sort out what had happened.

Janice Picano was the primary caregiver for her granddaughter.

Sources said the 67-year-old woman was in severe distress. They said she called 911 and told police what she had done and how to get into the house, then fired the final fatal blow.
