PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Spirit Airlines flight was struck by lightning Friday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says the flight – number 2214 – was heading to Cancun but had to make an emergency landing at the Philadelphia International Airport around 11 a.m. after the aircrew reported the plane was struck twice by lightning.

A Spirit spokesman said the passengers exited the plane safely and the airline is working on other travel options for them.
